Elementary School Personal Safety Presentations:
Yes You Can Say No-2nd through 6th Grades
In the moment, an assertive and confident child will be better prepared to protect themselves in difficult situations when no one else is available. Committee for Children designed this 19 minute video to empower children with skills that will enable them to speak up and speak out.
Sam’s Song-Pre Kindergarten through 3rd Grade
Sam's song is a story book read along CD from the "Talking about Touching" personal safety curriculum published by the Committee for Children (www.cfchildren.org). Along with the story and CD, there are several flip cards with different scenarios such as a child lost in a store, children getting a cookie from the neighbor and crossing the street. With the flip cards the class discusses whether or not the children are being safe or unsafe, what choices can the child make to ensure safety and who the child can tell or talk to if the situation remains unsafe.
Joey Learns the Touching Rule-Pre Kindergarten through 3rd Grade
Joey learns the touching rule is an eight minute video published by the Committee for Children (www.cfchildren.org). It is narrated by five year old Joey who learns the touching rule from his teacher. Just like Sam's song, we utilize the flip cards to conduct discussions about safety and choices to ensure personal safety and who they can turn to for help.
Internet Safety-Kindergarten through High School
We use an an interactive safety presentation produced by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program and NetSmartz (www.NetSmartz.org). These presentations are appropriately designed for different age groups: Grades K-2, 3-6, middle and high school. Parents and community can preview the the NetSmartz website listed above.

Safe and Unsafe Touches
This coloring book is produced by Positive Promotions (www.positivepromotions.com), and is a wonderful way to discuss personal safety with young children. It helps a child distinguish between a safe and an unsafe touch. It teaches children that it is ok to say NO. It also gives them the opportunity to identify who the trusted adults are in their lives.
